The hundreds of emergency vehicles lost when the twin towers fell on the morning of 9/11/01 are a mere footnote compared to the tragic loss of life, but the trucks that firefighters use every day to ensure our safety are an iconic symbol for us all from a young age. Whether it’s a ladder truck or pumper truck, who among us didn’t visualize ourselves with the hat and coat rolling with the sirens to battle flames and save victims?
In all, 343 firefighters were among the 2,819 people who lost their lives on 9/11, and hundreds more have battled respiratory ailments related to the attack. Those were hundreds of brave souls who spent their lives committed to answering fire calls at all hours of the day, and used the time in between for training and preparation. When they arrived on scene at the World Trade Center, they didn’t pause to worry about personal risk, they saw a fire that needed to be put out and people who needed to be saved and raced in. They will never be forgotten, and their sacrifices will always be honored.  continue here ...
